Lorna Reade is a professional artist, gallery owner and glass blower, born and raised in Zambia. Now living and working in the beautiful Breede River Valley with her husband, master glass blower, David Reade. Traveling through Africa and meeting people from various cultural backgrounds instilled a deep rooted love for the continent.

This passion is depicted in her paintings and glass work, especially so in her series “Dreams of Africa” which she has continually added to over the past thirty years. It is therefore no surprise that this same passion, quite by accident, became the seed out of which Ashes in Glass grew.

During a visit to the Czech Republic in 2003 Lorna met, as she describes him, a dear old soul who made glass memorial keepsakes with photos attached to them. This chance meeting with a stranger in a far away land made Lorna realise what a special gift this man’s art is to someone who has lost loved ones and Ashes in Glass was born.

Lorna’s very first pendants were made for two little girls who had lost their mother. Lorna still remembers the cobalt blue pendants with silver angel wings she created. The girls hung them on their headboards as a reminder of their mother’s love.
